Am I Too Old for a Cochlear Implant?

Recipients 80 years and older have received cochlear implants with excellent outcomes as long as there are no medical contraindications. Elders who receive implants report much better hearing than with hearing aids. The ability to use the telephone without a relay is especially important in emergencies as well as to stay in touch with loved ones. Studies of quality of life show that cochlear implants have a strong positive impact and may allow more independent living than would otherwise be possible.
