Types of Cochlear ImplantsCurrently there are three major cochlear implant manufacturers: Cochlear Corporation (Australian), MedEl Corporation (Austrian), and Advanced Bionics Corporation (American). Each provides multiple speech perception strategies and features. The hearing results using any of these devices can be outstanding, and depend on multiple factors, only one of which is the device itself. Each has certain features that are important in determining the implant to choose. Some important considerations include size and appearance, power of the computer, speed of the computer, reliability, battery life, ease of use, etc. It is important to become familiar with all implants in order to select the one that best fits your needs.
