Annelle V. Hodges, Ph.D., CCC/A, FAAA

Annelle Hodges is an Associate Professor and Director, Cochlear Implant Program at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She has been Audiological Director of the Cochlear Implant Team at the UM Ear Institute since 1992. She holds a B.A. degree in Early Childhood Education from the College of William and Mary, an M.S. degree in Education of the Hearing Impaired from the University of Alabama, and a Ph.D. in audiology from the University of Virginia. She has a Certificate of Clinical Competence in audiology from the American Speech and Hearing Association, is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology, and is licensed to practice audiology in Florida.

Hodges taught hearing impaired students of all ages in the public schools in Virginia for several years. She then served as an Assistant Professor of Communication Disorders and Director of the Preschool for Hearing Impaired and Language Delayed Children at the University of Virginia. She began working with cochlear implants in 1983 as the first CI audiologist at the University of Virginia and has worked with children and adults with cochlear implants of all types.

Hodges serves on the Audiology Advisory Panel for Cochlear Corporation, is a member of the steering committee of the American Audiology Foundation for specialty certification in Cochlear Implants, and has served as a special consultant on programming issues to Cochlear Corporation in Sydney. Her primary research interest has been in the development of methods of programming cochlear implants to make the programming of infants and young children faster and more accurate. Hodges has presented at numerous local, national, and international scientific meetings. She is the author/coauthor of numerous research publications related to hearing loss and cochlear implants.

Kathy K. Bricker, M.S., Cert AVT, CCC/A

Kathy Bricker is Coordinator of Pediatric Habilitative Services for the University of Miami Department of Otolaryngology. Kathy received a B.S. degree in Physical Education and an M.S. degree in Education of the Hearing Impaired from Ball State University. She also earned an M.S. degree in audiology from the University of New Mexico. Bricker is a Certified Auditory Verbal Therapist and also holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence in audiology from the American Speech Language and Hearing Association. She is licensed to practice audiology in Florida. Bricker has more than 20 years of experience working with hearing impaired children of all ages in both classroom and individual therapy settings. She has worked with the University of Miami Cochlear Implant Program since 1998. Bricker has given numerous talks and workshops locally, nationally and internationally related to the rehabilitation of children with hearing loss.

Alina Lopez, MA, CCC-SLP/A

Alina Lopez is originally from Panama and was educated in the United States receiving her Batchelor’s degree from George Washington University and her combined Master’s degree in both speech pathology and audiology from Temple University. She has worked as both an audiologist and speech pathologist in various settings including a private otology office, hospital and community-based hearing and speech center. Prior to joining the team, Lopez worked with cochlear implanted children at Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania. Her research interests include language development of hearing impaired children and she is currently the coordinator of NIH sponsored multi-institutional study, Childhood Development after Cochlear Implantation, in concert with Johns Hopkins University.
